MEET OUR FRENCH TUTOR
Introducing Madame Matheu our French Tutor!
Madame Matheu is a native of France having grown up in Narbonne where her parents are
winegrowers to this day. She now resides near Versailles with her American husband and three children (during the 2001-2002 academic year she and her husband are on a
sabbatical in the San Francisco area where her husband is continuing his oceanographic research). She has a PhD from Texas A&M as well as a prestigious engineering degree
from a French University. Her husband, Jim, also has a PhD in Oceanography and is an oceanographer in France.
THE IMPORTANCE OF A NATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHER
All of us at the Angelicum have spent years studying one or more foreign languages and
are of the firm conviction that native-language tutors provide an invaluable resource for
anyone seeking proper instruction in a foreign language. Even the best texts and tapes are
not able to help with pronunciation or clarify nuances. Indeed, many are written by non-native speakers and contain errors in idiom and pronunciation. Madame Matheu is
always careful to help her students speak with correct idiomatic expressions and to point out any errors in French textbooks written by non-native speakers.

MADAME MATHEU HAS 14 YEARS EXPERIENCE
Madame Matheu has taught French and English to both French and American students for
fourteen years. She has taught language from the preschool level all the way through
intensive courses for executives and professors. As a native of southern France and
long-time resident in northern France, Madame Matheu is familiar with native variations in dialect, pronunciation, and phraseology.
MADAME MATHEU USES INTERNET AUDIO & VIDEO TO TEACH HER STUDENTS
Classes are taught in a complete "virtual" classroom which offers both audio and video for
students and teacher. Madame Matheu presently uses Paltalk, the same software used for our online socratic discussion groups. Students can enroll and attend a weekly online
French class (subject to minimum class size) with other students (similar to our online
socratic seminars). Students can also sign up for weekly or bi-weekly half-hour one-on-one
sessions. Students are also free to arrange private sessions on their own schedule Prices
vary according to the level of instruction. Visit our online bookstore for standard pricing or e-mail us with a request for special pricing.
