In addition to the Permanent Faculty - the authors of the Great Books - the following are our faculty and staff.

Peter Redpath - Chairman
Dr. Redpath is a Full Professor of Philosophy at St. John's University; has received numerous awards and honors for his work in philosophy; was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Institute for Advanced Philosophical Research in 1988; has made over 70 public program appearances on philosophical topics; has authored numerous books, monographs, and published articles; and has edited two philosophy books. He is a member of the Board of Editors of Editions Rodopi.

 
Patrick S. J. Carmack - President
After earning his Juris Doctorate, Pat completed numerous additional courses in psychology and philosophy. A former administrative law Judge at the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, member of the U.S. Supreme Court Bar, former Chairman of the International Caspian Society, and President of a non-profit educational foundation, Pat lives with his wife Elisabeth and their five
children his wife Elisabeth and their five children in Ave Maria, Florida. Pat moderated the first live-audio Socratic groups online (2000) and numerous online groups since, as well as at Great Books evening programs in Seattle, WA. He has been a speaker on educational topics at various international conferences.

James S. Taylor - Director
A friend and then collegue of the famed three (Senior, Quinn and Nelick) at the K.U. Pearson Integrated Humanities Program, Jim has been a teacher of English and American Literature, Western Civilization, and Philosophy of Education (which he now teaches at Hillsdale College in Michigan), for over twenty years. Jim recently authored the wonderful book Poetic Knowledge, The Recovery of Education.  Jim also is experienced at moderating Socratic discussion groups and moderates Socratic Discussion groups online.

Gary Dunn - Director
Dr. Gary Dunn is renowned among Socratic seminar attendees all over America. A tireless lecturer, moderator and participant at countless seminars, Gary brings  his passion for philosophy and dialectic wherever he goes - and he goes wherever he can help advance Dr. Adler's educational and philosophical initiatives. Dr. Dunn is a Director of the of The Angelicum Academy.

 

John R. Coleman - Director
Dr. Coleman studied chemistry and biology at the University of Colorado where he graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in 1981. The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas was the venue for his undergraduate studies in medicine where he received his degree in 1987. He spent four years with the U.S. Army in Europe including service as a field surgeon during the Persian Gulf War. He returned to the United States where he is currently a board certified emergency medicine physician practicing in Iowa. He and his wife, Myra, have one son, Stephen, age 9. Dr. Coleman is a Director of the Academy.

Thomas R. Orr - Founding Director
Thomas R. Orr, Esq., a founding Director of The Angelicum Academy, graduated cum laude from the University of Washington; graduated magna cum laude from the Puget Sound Law School; served for eight years as a Sergeant on the Seattle police force; is a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Naval IReserve, formerly assigned to the Adversary Fighter Squadron (VFC-13) at the Navy's TOPGUN Fighter Weapons School as an intelligence officer. Tom is a member of the bars of Washington State and the U.S. Supreme Court and lives with his wife, Pam, and two sons in Federal Way, WA. Tom has moderated Socratic Discussion Groups online and at a great books program in Seattle, WA.

Peter C. McDowell - Math and Science Tutor
Peter McDowell taught Calculus at the University of Central Oklahoma and is presently pursuing his degree in engineering at the University of Oklahoma (O.U.).  Peter was homeschooled K-12, and will be happy to answer questions regarding higher math and science, which he also grades.
