
Course Description: Welcome! This introductory course will begin by establishing and examining the basic concepts and techniques of crafting prose fiction before moving into a study of some of its more sophisticated elements. Students should expect to read a wide range of examples from classic and contemporary fiction and to discuss the craft techniques demonstrated in each text. Students should also expect to draft and workshop their own prose.

Mary Carmack is a fiction writer earning her MFA in Creative Writing at Western Kentucky University where she also teaches English. Ms. Carmack is also an alum of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, the Angelicum Great Books Program, and the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, where she graduated with a BA in English, summa cum laude.
